GWENT POLICE AUTHORITY

are currently mounting an intense covert speed camera campaign on the A449 and the A40. They have two  panel vans, one plain red and one plain blue. They are readily recognisable  by the ventilation pod on the roof and the openable rear windows (so that the camera and speed monitor have a clear view of your vehicle) They are mostly on the Southbound carriageway.

(20th Feb 2002) The red van has now been fitted with red and yellow chevrons on the back and small Gwent Constabulary Signs on the front doors.)

April 2002. A white van has now been seen in use, but it does have lots of sign writing on it encouraging you to keep the speed limits, and to drive carefully

October 2004. There seem now only to be white vans, but they are out there every day! They are often to be seen on the overbridges on the M4, including right by the tolls.  There is now an alternative vehicle operating, also a white van, run by the DVLA which is automatically checking live if your vehicle is taxed and insured.
